Hair care in today's hectic lifestyle is a challenge itself.
We forget to take care of ourselves, which results in many problems related to skin, health and hair.

In our daily routine there's hardly any time for us to show some care towards our hair.
This results to dull, dry, weak and almost lifeless hair.

Before we start, checkout my other hair related blogs..

So.. here are some tips which may help in taking care & maintaining our hair health in our ridiculously busy life. These tips may sound something you've been listening but trust me they really matter!

7 TIPS TO MAINTAIN HAIR HEALTH

1. DIET

The first step in hair care is your diet and the two most important things in your diet are iron and protein. The hair cells are the fastest growing cells in the body but they are also the first ones to be affected if you don’t eat right or suffer with deficiencies of nutrients.
Try and include iron rich foods like leafy vegetables, fish, pumpkin seeds, beans, chickpea, soybeans and cereals in your diet.

You also need protein because that’s what strengthens your hair. Include complete proteins which are also rich in amino acids: like cheese, milk, soy, lentils, peas, quinoa and yogurt.

2.Combing and breakage

Its normal to loose 100 to 150 strands of hair a day so don’t panic when you see a small bunch crawling across your tiled floor. Just make sure you comb gently and use some serum if you have very tangled hair.

Comb wet hair with extreme care because they’re fragile and prone to breakage. Take a broad toothed comb and start from the tips all the way up.

3. Trimming

Trim your hair every few weeks to get rid of those thin and rough split ends. Cut about
1/4th an inch of your hair every 6 to 8 weeks to avoid the split ends to grow out again.

4.Hairwash

Don’t wash your hair everyday as you may loose your natural oils and make your scalp dry. Washing your hair twice a week is enough and whenever you do, apply some conditioner on the ends.
Try and use the same brand of shampoo and conditioner.

Rinse the conditioner off with cold water as it is good for both strength and shine.

5. OIL IS THE ANSWER

Oil gives your hair certain vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids that don’t just strengthen your roots but also boost overall health of your hair.
Coconut oil is most recommended by hair experts. It can protect your hair from sun damage, dandruff and removes sebum buildup from your hair follicles accelerating hair growth.
You could also boil some curry leaves in coconut oil, strain the oil and apply.
If you are suffering from hair fall then olive oil would be a better bet.
If it’s not possible for you to oil and wash your hair often, make sure you do it once a week.
10 to 15 minutes of oil massage on your scalp, this small bit can make a big difference in your hair health.

You can also keep oil on your hair overnight and ash it the next day otherwise just apply and keep it for 20 to 30 minutes and wash.

6. NO NO TO HEAT & CHEMICALS

Unlike the label on the back of our food items, the labels on the back of our hair products are mostly left unread.
In the last few years, there has been a lot of focus on sulfate in shampoos. What are sulfates? They are the reason your shampoo lathers the way it does. They clean your scalp and hair, departing the dirt from it. But researchers also suggest that they strip your hair of essential oils. If you feel any kind of irritation on your scalp or find your hair drying up overtime then try and buy a shampoo free of sulfates.
If you’ve got dry hair then its best to avoid coloring.
Use lemon, chamomile tea or honey, as they work great as hair lighteners.
If you want gorgeous curls or perfect waves, then there are a few ways you can get those without taking the help of a dryer, straightner or curler.
But, if you must use heat styling products.. then make sure to use hair serums or other heat protecting products to avoid damage.

7. SHOW SOME CARE WITH DEEP CONDITIONING

Even though you condition your hair every time you wash your hair, nothing quite works as good as deep conditioning . Every once in a while wash your hair with shampoo, squeeze out the extra water and towel dry it. Then take some conditioner and apply it to your hair. Use a broad toothed comb and run it through your hair to make sure the conditioner reaches everywhere. Now pull them up and clip them together. Leave the conditioner in for anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour. Pull them down rinse thoroughly and enjoy silky smooth hair.
